Apparently, pretty good because I found another at our local thrift store…exactly like the first one! This dresser wasn’t as pristine as the last one but it was marked down to $17. YES, $17!!! I knew I could work my magic for that price. In typical Nifty Thrifty Girl fashion, I was so anxious to transform the piece that I forgot to take some before pics to show how ugly it was. I did snap some photos of the drawers so you can get the idea of its gold/yellow ugliness…

Our new dining room buffet. I thought the original drawer pulls & knobs were pretty cool so I painted them with a satin nickel spray paint and re-installed them.

Not bad for a mere $17, eh? I spent more on the paint & spray paint than I did on the dresser!

When decorating, I typically like to make use of my collections or items I have on hand in the house. I knew exactly where I was going to do my Halloween display and had an idea of what items of my own I would use. All I needed was some Halloween inspiration and I found it at my local Family Dollar store.

Some purple lights, some witch garland…and a couple of bags of candy and…

Ta-da! Halloween display complete.

Many people don’t realise the aesthetic importance of bedding when they are decorating their bedrooms, instead they focus on the colour of the walls and the position of the furniture. Whilst both these factors are important in getting your bedroom to look the way you want it to, it is the bedding that really brings the room together. The right bedding can make sure that your bedroom gives off the impression you want it to as well as being very comfortable too.

The range of bedding is massive, both in design and materials, so there is bedding available that can compliment any style of bedroom. You might want to go with the deliciously decadent Egyptian cotton or the modern Polycotton Percale, whatever your preference there are companies that can cater for you. The choice is not as varied on the high street as it is online however. To avoid being forced to compromise with bedding you don’t really want, it is recommended that you utilise online stores instead. Not only can they usually beat the price of the high street but the delivery can be as fast as the next working day!

When on the hunt for some new bedding you should make sure that you know exactly what you want your bedroom to look like when it’s finished. There’s no point buying bedding if it ends up clashing with the rest of your room.

People often forget just how much space their bed takes up. In the majority of cases the bed is very much the centrepiece of the room, so you need to make sure that the aesthetics are perfect. When you enter a bedroom your eyes are instinctively drawn to the bed and everyone knows that first impressions are everything!

Appearance is all well and good but it should never come at the cost of comfort. At the end of the day (literally!) you want to go home to a bed that feels as comfortable as a cloud and makes getting up in the morning really difficult!

There is lots of bedding that is perfect for children as well. These feature designs of their favourite toy or cartoon character and really help to personalise their bedrooms.

So if you are considering decorating or redecorating your bedroom then make sure that you don’t forget about bedding. There are a lot of online stores that cater for your every need whether you’re searching for duvet covers, pillow cases or bedspreads in whatever design or material.

It will do…for now. The fun thing about canvas is that it can be reworked and reused over and over!

This year, however, because I am trying to purge I decided I would avoid looking. Ha. When I took my dogs out for a walk early on the first ‘trash’ day they stopped at a roadside pile and sniffed. And what to my wondering eyes did appear…but two vintage basket weave metal patio chairs. I gazed at them, pondered, shrugged them off and decided to go on my way. Hours later I could not stop thinking about them! So…I went back and they must have been meant to be mine because they were still there.

After much scraping, metal brushing, rust removal, priming and painting, I have a lovely pair of pink patio chairs!

I installed one in my bedroom and will use the other on the patio (that is, if the weather ever cooperates). Even though they are a bit time consuming to make, I love the look of them so much I may even make another for my hallway!

I’ve been wanting to replace my giant, cottage-looking armoire that held my tv for some time now and I knew this piece would make the perfect contemporary tv console. So…with a little paint and some new drawer pulls…let me introduce you to my new tv console…

I’m thrilled with the results. It’s a much needed change from the old armoire, plus, it makes the living room look so much bigger.

I also made a few small fleece pet beds. Each has a removable insert so you can throw the cover right into the wash!

I’d love to make these for my pups but I’m afraid it would take an awful lot of fabric and stuffing to fill a bed for a 50 lb. and 100 lb. dog!
